þungr dauði aka Den Tunga Döden aka Heavydeath
Born in obscurity, an entity cloaked in the weight of shadow emerged in 2013, nameless at first, a simple, sporadic experiment in sound. It bore many titles - þungr dauði, Den Tunga Döden, and finally Heavydeath, the least fitting yet the one that clung like a curse. This was no polished endeavor; it was raw, imperfect, but alive in its own relentless way.
Its existence was fleeting yet potent, carving a jagged path through the realm of doom and darkness. Over time, the project birthed several releases, each more unyielding than the last. Among them, the most haunting achievement remains the full-length monolith "Sarcophagus In The Sky" (Aftermath Music, 2017). These creations stand as grim testaments to an entity unwilling to conform, unwilling to compromise.
By early 2019, the entity breathed its last. Its final creation was the chilling hymn "The Newborn", a lament that still echoes faintly through the void. From that moment, Heavydeath fell silent forever.
And now, the echoes have faded.
The entity slumbers in eternal stillness.
Its grave is unmarked, and no resurrection is willed.
Yet, from its ashes, other forms began to stir. One such manifestation was Den Tunga Döden, later renamed Dödsvaka with Johan (bass), Daniel (drums), Nicklas (guitar), and Pelle aka Hellbutcher (vocals). In the autumn of 2019, this brotherhood recorded a full-length album of heavy, epic, and somewhat obscure metal. It was meant for release on an Italian label that soon vanished, and during the plague of the pandemic, the project itself slipped into obscurity. Still, as the years have passed, conversations have returned - during 2024 and 2025 the band has spoken of finishing the last missing pieces, mostly vocal parts, along with proper mixing and mastering. Who knows what the future holds? If fortune allows, the album may finally see its release in 2026. Time will tell.
Another shadow born from Heavydeath was Kosmonom, consisting of Nicklas and Johan. Conceived as an exploration of industrial death doom metal, songs were written and raw demo sketches recorded in 2019. The sound carried faint echoes of Heavydeath, but leaned further into industrial realms with drum machines, samplers, and harsh textures woven into down-tuned death doom metal. As with many things, the pandemic drained its momentum, and the material gathered dust. Yet here in 2025, talks have reignited. Nicklas and Johan are working to complete the first song ever recorded, "Devourer of the Last Light." A few layers remain from the 2019 session, with bass and vocals still unfinished, and a search for a voice is ongoing... If all aligns, the first track may finally be released in 2025. Again, time will tell if the fragments fall into place.
Perhaps, as Heavydeath began in the unseen corners of existence, so too shall its echoes remain... obscured specters of sound, scattered yet alive within new vessels of creation.
The remnants of its members' creative force continue to wander across vast, uncharted realms. From the ancient incantations of Runemagick to the mournful elegies of Katatonia, from the abyssal dirges of The Funeral Orchestra to the enigmatic experimentations of Unformulas, their paths diverge yet remain deeply rooted in the soil of darkness. Each endeavor stands as its own monolith, carved from the depths of sound and shadow, bearing witness to their relentless pursuit of the unspoken and the arcane.
